Your living conditions as EVS volunteer in Moldova: what can an EVS in Moldova offer you?

Maybe you have questions about your living conditions in Moldova, on where you will live, what money you will get…! These are of course natural questions and here we tried to review all the practicalities of your EVS in Moldova so that you know in advance what we can offer you!

Accommodation: where will I live?    During   the first 2 weeks (and during the training), the
EVS volunteers  will  be accommodated in double-rooms in a recreation center in the Dubossary
region with private  bathroom. After this, all volunteers will be distributed in pairs to the different
communities  throughout  Moldova,  mostly in the regions, in cities or villages. Volunteers will live
either with host families or share a living location together.
The living location will meet decent living standards (private room, free access to kitchen and bathroom, functioning heating system, clean and secure location). ICCD in cooperation with each hosting community will make all efforts to find the best accommodation location for the volunteers. All accommodation and utility costs (water, gas, electricity, up to a set amount) will be covered by ICCD.

Food: what will I eat?   EVS volunteers receive a monthly food allowance (in addition to
the pocket money). Of  course, this allowance is not enough for you to eat every day in a
restaurant or bistro,  but  it  is  totally  fine   to  buy  your  food  on  the numerous open-air
markets, in European-style supermarkets (in cities) or in the small grocery shops   (“alimentara”) that you can find at each corner of the streets. All products are available (fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and fish, dairy products…).
Buying and preparing the food is to be the sole responsibility of the volunteers. For preparing the food the volunteers will have free access to an equipped kitchen. In the case volunteers are staying in host families, we can work out a solution for you to have meals with the family.

Transport: how to move around?       The  local   transportation   costs   of  the volunteers
necessary to live and work in Moldova will be covered 100% by ICCD  from the project budget.
The  international  transport  of  the  volunteer  from his/her   home  to  the  site  of  the  project
shall be covered 100% two ways (Economy flight tickets and/or 2nd class train tickets). Other
personal  transport  of  the  volunteers  (local,  national  or  international)  and that is not work-
related will not be covered by ICCD.

Language training:  how will I communicate with people?    Due to the importance
of  communication   with people from the hosting communities (most of them cannot speak
any  foreign  languages), it  will  be  of   crucial  importance for the volunteers to learn the
Russian  or  Romanian  language  at  a  good  speaking   level.  Language  courses will be
provided free of charge: an  initial  12-hour  crash  course of the chosen language will be
followed by a 30-hour course to be completed within the duration of the project. The volunteers will have the responsibility to attend all language courses according to the schedule as well as to make every effort in studying and learning the language. The Russian/Romanian language lessons shall be provided by experienced language tutor. The content and structure of the language courses will be decided together with the volunteers, taking into consideration their learning abilities and needs.

                             Let’s speak about money!
Each  volunteer  is  entitled  to  receive  an  80  Euro monthly
allowance - pocket  money ,  which theycan spent as they want. Money will be transferred
each month on a  bank account open at the arrival of the volunteer in Moldova. A debit card
comes with the bank account and ATMs can be found in cities.

                             Internet: stay connected!
In  location  where  volunteers   live  together,  it  is possible to
subscribe to an internet service. ICCD will help  with   the  subscription   paperwork but  the
monthly costs of internet will NOT be covered by  ICCD. There are also many internet cafes
                             in cities.
